It's not quite that simple. Unless the number of entries is a power of two, just giving the player a bye is stealing equity from him, since he might have gotten a bye with a single entry anyway. We (Vegas) normally give each entry a separate chance for a bye, so it's possible that someone who qualifies twice will have one entry starting in round one and one starting in round two.

If you want to combine the entries for scheduling purposes, the right way to handle it is to draw separately for byes, then if one entry has a bye, it plays the winner of the other entry's first round match, so that the opponent has to beat our guy twice in a row.
