Coolrey and the others have already said anything I would have said, so I'll just agree that you need to stop thinking of yourself as "Intermediate" and don't overthink decisions that involve skill differences. I have a tongue-in-cheek maxim, "When in doubt, make the right play" which I believe applies here.

Since there isn't much gammon-juice, you can take his double here, hope he misses and you bring it home. Even if he hits, he still has to bring it home, and that isn't guaranteed. You have considerable "life after death" here if you get hit but respond with an immediate deuce.
