You should only make non-"correct" plays against your opponent if it actually increases your match equity to do so. And in that case it becomes correct.
Keep in mind that weaker players should follow the same strategy, but in reverse. For example, giving a slightly early double to 8 against a stronger player because a) they want to double the stronger player in for high stakes in a game where the skill difference does not exist, and b) the stronger player's take point will be higher due to the skill difference so the double point is also higher.
