OTB and rollout

Without too much hesitation I hit Stick off the ace point putting a second man up. I did hesitate, but I figured that I didn't want him to anchor up and screw up my gammon chances. Besides, after breaking the bar point it is still slotted, and can be remade in an emergency... Those were my final thoughts.
The rollout showed my play to be 4th best and wrong by about 0.100. All plays that hold the prime are better, and mine was surprisingly bad! Eval had it worse, but I fully expected the rollout to vindicate me here. It did not.
When that happens you have to go back and figure out why. Holding the 5 prime as Neil suggests... is powerful. Stick's position is precarious and he is in terrible shape whether he enters or not. Enter on the ace, get pounded off the deuce. Enter on the deuce, start cracking and eventually become vulnerable to having to leave with a 6. Fail to enter... ugh!
Breaking the 5 prime and creating a couple extra blots give him some hope, it seems. Patience is apparently the best strategy for a hungry vulture if the wildebeast is still struggling with it's broken leg.
I wanted to move in for the kill too soon. I need to be a little more careful in the future, and remain more objective OTB when the end of the match is in sight.
