You have a point, but there will always be a good deal of uncertainty wrt positions like this. Are you stronger than your opponent? Weaker? How does that affect the cube action? He might incorrectly pass, he might incorrectly take, he might butcher the checkers (all regardless of whether he is stronger or weaker), maybe you are technically in the doubling window in similar positions but unable to figure it out OTB.

Basically, you could have GNU at your side and study these positions for a month and still not come to definitive conclusions. So I'd just roll :)
