Haha, I was almost as astonished by the evaluation on this one as I was at how bad I played this game! Gnu generously said that I played the checkers "awful" but my cube action on the other hand was "awful".
In the game I doubled and Richard dropped. See, playing the checkers bad has benefits! Richard plays the checkers almost perfectly so he must have duly noted my blunders and didn't want to throw away 4 points on a lucky game to such a putz!!!
As for the position?
The score (after 1 game) is: Rich Munitz 0, Ray Fogerlund 1 (match to 15 points)
Move number 20: Ray Fogerlund on roll, cube decision?
Rich Munitz 118
Ray Fogerlund 89 Position ID: btuAAWD3xiDBAA Match ID: cAngAQAACAAA
• Ray Fogerlund doubles
Alert: wrong double ( -0.107)! [bad]
Cube decision 2-ply cubeless equity +0.337 (Money: +0.330) 0.608 0.218 0.003 - 0.392 0.105 0.003 Cubeful equities: 1. No double +0.492 2. Double, pass +1.000 +0.508 3. Double, take +0.385 -0.107 Proper cube action: No double, take (17.4%)
No double/ Take.
Actually a .1xx blunder to double, and about 5 times that to pass. I'll post a rollout result tommorrow I guess... This evaluation just blew me away.
Recalling recent posts about playing tired, or bad players, Richard nor I had any such excuse on Wednesday night, 8pm, first round of the jackpot... and MCG recording, so presumably we knew any mistakes we made might make their way here and cause us both great ridicule and shame.
All I can say is Fu*k Gnu. My cube action was at least "lousy"... I believe that my blunder should be subtracted from my handsome error rate of 5. Honestly as poorly as I played the checkers, (and I did miss a legit double earlier too I think), I can't blame Richard minimizing his risk... Maybe the rollout with make it closer???
Richard beat me, Grunwald, Senkewicz, and then lost at DMP to Stick who was playing 2 in Vegas. We both played right at 5 in this match. That should show you how much a LOW error rate is worth at backgammon tournaments. Richard and I have had over 100 ABT points in the last 3 years, each. Makes you think there might be something else to it, you know?
