Vegas SJP 32 OTB thoughts

NOBODY likes to get doubled when they have two on the bar vs. a 4 point board, and the default, (and usually instant), response is to drop...

Gnu would laugh outloud, presumably, if you doubled it here, in real life. But you are not playing Gnu, it's a man over there. A guy who has some emotions, even though he might be really good at disguising them.

I was quite surprised this was not a double, but I never had any doubts about sending it. Richard gave it a little thought before he passed it and I think I was kind of glad to get the point.

Richard won the ABT in 06, was second in 07, and fourth by .02 in 08. So, aside from Neil who is better than him? I won in 2007, and had the lead midway through 08 before fading to 5th....

... So, how come us two big shots are making blunders? You have to be careful about criticizing our plays or cube decisions OTB, because trust me you don't want to draw either one of us at the next tournament. Personally, in all honesty I would rather play ME than Richard, he is awesome.

I played the checkers like shit and then I made a "bad" double. I won a point. That's a pretty good result!

Richard passed this. He lost 1 point. The score at the end of this game was 0-2/15, not 0-5/15. He made sure I only got 1 point. I don't know if he overestimated my position, or he was just "managing" his match vs. this particular opponent. If it was the latter you had better give him his due, he beat me handily...

If you want to become good and earn ABT points, it is probably good to watch Neil Kazaross play... If he is not available, then watch Richard. Nobody has more points than he does over the last 3 years. He maintains a rating well above 1900 on GG and there are generally only about 20 players above that number on any given day. Welcome to the real world, boys.

I doubled this and capitalized on some fear equity, Rich passed and stayed close in the match. Not technically perfect, but check out the W/L records before you pass judgement. Oh, by the way, beware, we are still studying and we might not make the same mistake next time against YOU.

It's easy to take this one here at bgonline, but do you want to bet your $1000 entry fee on that take? Richard ended up making a tidy profit for his investment. My hat is off to him, despite this mistake.
