[recording one's own match by hand] Match Recording - 2010 Pittsburgh ABT - Other Thoughts

I don't think the record of a match in progress should be available to either participant unless there is a dispute that can only be resolved by referring to the record. Therefore, I would not allow someone to pencil and paper record their own match, which is why I mentioned "3rd party" when referring to written records in the OP.
I don't have to make a determination as to whether or not it's distracting or an aid. Still, I think it could be an aid. Returning to most simple examples, you count the pips and determine you should double or take or run or stay. Before making the play you glance down at your record and notice a couple of big roles for your opponent which make you question your count. You count again and lo and behold you get a different count which affects your play. That would be an aid, no?
Now, in principle, I don't see any particular reason why we couldn't alter the rules to allow for self match recording and limit the written aid rule to not include said written match record. I'm not up for that fight though.
