Is this correct?: In matchplay, certain takeable cubes should be passed!

There are a lot of factors that go into the MET: gammons, redoubles, skewed scores later in the match, etc. Maybe someone else can give a better answer but it doesn't seem like an intuitive way of looking at the problem; I'm not sure if it's well-defined.

Apparent conclusion: In matchplay, don't take borderline cubes early in the match. Am I overlooking something?

This seems very odd to me since you should be slightly more inclined to take cubes when you are trailing.
