Hand 1:
Tells were extremely important on this hand.
Tell #1: The overbet without thought. He just grabbed a random # of chips and popped them on on the table. This felt like weakness to me.
Tell #2: While I was counting out the call, and then counting out 100 more (just posturing) he stared directly at me, usually another sign of weakness.
With these two tells, and knowing he would fire a second shell (but never a third, I've played with him a few times before, he will not bluff 3 times), I just called. Turn came a meaningless rag, and he grabbed another random # of chips... this time $50 (a huuuuuge underbet), and I quickly called. River came another blank, and he checked to me. I checked behind and QJ won at showdown.
Hand 2:
Interesting hand because of the timing. I was done for the night, and was racking my chips up so I could leave before paying my next blinds. I always look at my last hand, but don't usually play it, but 9s warranted at least seeing a flop. So I raise to 12, and get 4 callers. If there isn't a 9 on the flop, I'm cashing out.
So then I flop bottom set on a scary board. I put the $30 out hoping to get raised, because I doubt the nut straight raises me here, usually a raise here means QJ, JT, J9, etc. Someone who doesn't want another card to peel off.
Success... I get a sucker to pop it up. I shove my rack of reds in the middle (making it 500) and he insta calls and turns over KK with a big cheesy grin like he trapped me! So I flip up my set, and dodge the K and Q for the win.
Moral of the 2nd hand is twofold:
1) Re-raise with KK preflop when there are 3 callers ahead of you... don't gambooool with big hands, take down the pot. If he makes it $80 to go preflop, he wins a nice pot and doesn't go broke here.
2) Don't fuck with someone who's racking up. They usually have a big hand if they are playing.
