Agreed.
Usually pre-clearing is best when there are multiple checkers on the roof and the board is closed. Your goal is to not only clear the point, but to ensure that the opponent gets off the bar breaking contact before you leave a shot.
Here however, white has the ace point anchor and so the benefit of a quick entry is greatly reduced. Ultimately, the risk of leaving 2 indirect shots off the roof is greater than the risk of leaving a blot clearing the 6 point later and it then getting hit. So pay later.
