I peel. The 3 fewer shots by hitting are more than compensated for by all of the extra shots the following turns when the blot can't be covered or cleared. In addition, it looks pretty close to half of white's wins will be gammons, and so small improvements like an extra checker off can greatly increase gammon chances.
