I once saw Trabolt agonize over a play for several minutes only to end up making an illegal play. His opponent noticed it straight away and it caused a lot of laughing that it took Trabi so long to find an illegal play. I'm sure that episode made Trabi as ashamed as he was proud to win the world championship. It just goes to show that making the odd illegal play is something which can happen to everyone.

As long as it only happens rarely and one doesn't end up with a reputation like Sequeira it's ok.

In Denmark players almost always agree to play "legal moves" whenever a match is recorded. Doing so a kibitzer or the recorder can interfere if an illegal play is made.
