In Response To: Why Rod Covlin is barred from the Chicago Open next year (rory)

1. I talked to Howard about the board thief and suggested that he not be allowed in the room. The evidence is clear: he had possession of the board and he "claimed" he bought it at a garage sale. Clearly he stole the board or he bought it from someone who did and lied. Either way, he is clearly guilty of being either a liar or a thief or both. Carter and I got Alan his board and most of his money back, but I had to threaten Christof with calling the police.

2. As for the guy in the chou who is short of money, again, I called this to Rory's attention and I think he handled it well.

3. As for the problem with the hedging with Albert and Alex and Bill, the problem was not just that the Russians didn't understand...and that's giving them the benefit of the doubt because Albert has hedged at many tournaments and knows full well how it works. The problem is, according to Bill, when asked he they split the money with Perry and Bob, they out and out lied about it. Bill tells me that Howard handled it very well. For the record, because of the lie and many past actions by Albert, he will not be welcomed in our chouette...he is simply not trustworthy and not fun to play with or argue with.

Overall, I am one of the people who was pleasantly surprised that Rory was able to keep his big mouth shut most of the time and I felt that his efforts to make this a fun tournament were extraordinary.

I have been asked to become involved in running major tournaments and have always turned it down because the work is enormous and the rewards small, and everyone is always critizing you for something. It's a horrible, thankless job with little financial or other reward. We owe a lot of thanks to all tournament directors.
