Selection of Backgammon Giants from USA

In Response To: Selection of Backgammon Giants from USA (Marv Porten)

The Official Ballot for the 2007 Backgammon Giants vote said: "Here is your chance to vote for today's best 32 active backgammon players in the world, based on their tournament skills and side games. To be eligible to vote, you must be an Open/Championship-level player or a tournament director at the regional, national or international level."

The line about being "respected and feared" is not part of the Official Ballot. The Giants list at CJC's site is described as containing the most respected and feared players, but "respected and feared" is not part of the voting criteria.

Also, the words "today's best 32 active backgammon players" are in bold type on the Official Ballot. Those who are not "active" nowadays are still great players, and, to repeat, in no way are my comments meant to denigrate their accomplishments. If the Giants list is for active players, some of the players who are no longer active in tournaments (and whose success in side games is unknown) should not receive votes.
