In Response To: My true errors.... (Rod)

Rod: And as far as MCG goes... no... I'm not looking to have the rollout show that I played better... I really don't [usually] care about my ER from any particular match. (Though I had thought I was playing fine, despite all of the losses I had that weekend in Chicago and it is nice to know that this supports my feeling - and my GNU ER was almost the exact same relative to MCG's, so it wasn't a low ER because of time on the bar).

RAY: Well, if you played 3.7, (I think that is what you said)... then you did play fine. If you want to get rid of 2 ply errors by gnu then have it analyze on 3 ply I guess... Or just forget about it altogether because it is the state of the art. You have to accept something at SOME point. Deeper plies will/may produce more accurate results but it takes longer to get that accuracy. In terms of efficiency this limits your ability to study, and that will allow MCG to work harder than you can because he can look at more mistakes because it takes infinitely longer for you to accept the fact that you made a mistake.

What if 16 ply decides that the best opening 65 is 24/18 and 8/3? Or an opening 21 should be played 6/5, 6/4 at gammon save???

What you really want to do is make an objective determination about what caused you to LOSE your last match. BTW that is harder to do if you immediately enter a second blitz, two point quickie, and re-enter the masters.

Playing is not the way to groove good habits.

Also, if you find that your double, (which Gnu agreed 100% with), was accepted by David Todd and turned into an early 4 cube you got gammoned on... to LOSE.

Then what caused you to LOSE was an early double for DT, who would most certainly have taken later... or passed when it was almost hopeless 2 turns later. IF you don't learn from this example that you should be doubling DT later, then... a lower ER is going to hurt your results, significantly.
