Criteria for Giants in US and Overseas - WBR

I think we should be using live action ELO ratings as the key reference point here (perhaps also noting some online results, particularly knowledge of the big money winners on the net).

WorldBackgammonRatings.com is evolving quite well with data growing from last year's WSOB and EBGT tours, with some added data from ABT 2008 and PGT 2008, married with this year's WSOB, EBGT, ABT tours, we will see who deserves to be recognized, on current form at least. So voting should be delayed until all these tours have run their course).

Indeed, if WBR works, events on all the tours will benefit from added interest from players.

However, I am disappointed to note ABT has shown little or no interest in WBR. It will not be used in Monte Carlo either - is playing for your key rating an incentive to play events? I think so.

Please also note WBR is totally independent and should remain so; I have avoided any idea of WSOB having a stake in it but would be prepared to put up come cash to develop it if other org/ tours do as well. Indeed we promote it on our website and we will use it this year as our primary tournament system (it also updates live from events so great for players to follow the evolving draw at high profile tournaments).

The Giants list should certainly reflect opinion and have a varied tone from ratings but it should surely resemble what's happening week to week on the major international tours.

Alternatively/additionally, to be taken seriously, Giants list needs to be automated so 100s of players can vote online, instead of disappointing/ not to to be taken very seriously results from 100 or so voters last time round.
