Increasing interest and attendance

Here's my idea for increasing backgammon interest and attendance:
As part of one of the major ABT tournaments, have a separate competition to choose a 5 or 6 player US/ABT team to play against a similarly chosen European or Asia/Oceania team (or against both in a three-team event). It would cost, for example, $300 to enter that competition, and the prize pool ($9600 if 32 players enter) would go towards airfare and hotel expenses to send the team to Europe or Asia. If more than the amount needed for travel expenses were amassed (e.g., if 50 or 60 players enter) the excess would be paid out in prize money. When the team competition is held in the US, the amount needed for travel expenses would be decreased and the prize payout would be increased.
If the concept is successful for a couple of years, perhaps a computer manufacturer could be approached to be a sponsor. Here's the ad that I envision: US backgammon team captain (insert name) uses his XYZ Company super-computer (photo) to analyze the keys plays in the USA team's recent triumph over (insert name) in the 2011 world team backgammon competition.
