To those not knowing:

In Monte Carlo 2007 Mort Holm and his fellow Danish bookies established the initial odds on Rich winning the tournament at 350:1 -- when most of the top, well-known, established favorites were in the 40:1 -- 50:1 range. Rich had won the ABT the previous year but was totally unknown by the Danes.

Jake Jacobs, apparently a friend and acquaintance of Holm, went up and put twenty Euros on Rich and asked Holm if he didn't know who this guy was. He informed him he'd won the ABT the previous year and was a very good player -- they immediately dropped the odds to 150:1 much to the chagrine of Malcolm Davis who was in line planning on putting significant money on Rich at 350:1. Needless to say, Malcolm was quite irritated at Jake.

And, as we all know, Rich went on to lose in the semis after becoming the betting favorite of the remaining participants in the round of eight. Doubtlessly, one could have cashed with the bookies for a substantial gain prior to the quarters or semis -- or road the horse to the finish looking for the really big payday. He was a huge favorite in the semis, and would've been so in the final had he won the semi.
