We're ahead in the race and outboarded, so running a back checker is thematic. It usually makes our upcoming rolls more flexible as well. The reflex play is to continue to the 15pt, getting that checker closer to home, and keeping the laggard back on the 1pt, where it is safer. Here, however, Stick has a lot of awkward 5s and 6s. By staying back, we let him use his 5s to attack. If we play 24/23, we not only duplicate his 4s, but deprive him of his hitting 5s, which looks even more important.
