Howard Ring is a testament to the power of the list – few would deny that he belonged on the list, and his victory in the last World Cup vindicated the judgment of the voters that put him there, but without the list the average player might never have heard of him."
Neil replies... Money play didn't really have much of an impact on my decisions as to where to place Howard on the Giants list. Sure he would usually win in Chicago chou's when he came to the clubs, which wasn't that often, but those certainly weren't the toughest games around as you and I could certainly confirm. What about other money games...well I think Howard did more than hold his own in the big money "Harvey" chou, the few times they let him play. "They" let him play a couple times after they stopped letting me play and they let me play once or twice after "they" stopped letting Willcox play.
...Howard received his Giant's votes from me due to my evaluation of his BG abilities and his ability to apply those over the board. He had a deep knowledge of the game and his results in winning the World Cup and at least one Master's JP in Vegas certainly prove that.
