I would definitely play 9/8 9/4, starting/filling my 4 point and holding the better blocking point. Which hardly qualifies as a baffling play.

Accounting for the QF, My guess is 10/4, or 9/4 5/4, which acknowledges that while some of white's pip lead is lost to inefficiency, there still is a large chunk left, and that if white jumps right away I might be better off being hit.
