In Response To: Criteria for Giants in US and Overseas (Stick)

Hi Stick:

Let me pose a different question. Is a player a Giant if, though an absolutely wonderful tournament player, he is a hopeless money player?

I can think of at least two players who were considered "best in the world" that were such steamers that ... Well, put it this way: I saw one of them gutted by Chicago legend Stanley "Steamer" Steele, and another who used to donate his money to Phil Simborg.

On the other hand, I can think of two other perennials on the Giants list whose tendencies were quite opposite. One rarely played for money because he wasn't comfortable doing so, and the other had a reputation for being a deer in the headlights.

Players like Nack, Sander, and Falafel are equally comfortable at match and money, and draw my votes. Some of the players mentioned in the paragraphs above might make my list, but they aren't on my personal "short list."
