I agree it was a well-run event, but the discounted entry fee for hotel guests, and the resulting extraordinarily low equity could have kept some local folks away. It's true that it costs more to travel to out-of-town tournaments, but having attended many of them without ever having benefitted from a hotel discount, it was annoying to suffer from it here.

A more equitable way to sweeten the deal for hotels would be to require each player to purchase a voucher, which could be used for rooms, meals, drinks, etc.
