PC's i7 processor

I get significant performance on a lower end 2.83ghz Dual Quad Core as well .

Some advantages of the i920 is that they use Quick Path Interconnect, and have the ability to support Hyperthreading (which could improve GnuBG's performance). The i920 architecture does away with the front side bus, and increases bandwidth to memory.

The bigger question is for some, what is the best price to performance for use with GnuBG. Neil Kaz is aware I have been running analysis on matches and having them posted to my website in under 2 minutes (Usually 11pt matches around 500-600 total moves).

i920 is the technology that Intel will use over the next 5 years. For the cash conscious that may be reading this you may wish to wait until there are more QuickPath/i920 mother boards on the market. This should bring down the price point.

One brand name currently using i920 Processors (You will see them listed as Nehalem processors) and a QPI bus is Apple.

There has been talk of 16 core systems coming out next year, but expect those to be pricey as well.

With that being said, if people are on a budget, Dual Quad Core 2.83ghz server systems can be had for less than 4000 USD and may perform very well for most needs.

Unfortunately, the OS I use for my Dual Quad system is Linux and at present the speed test is unreliable (it says it performs 148000000 static evaluations per second) which is way way out of whack.

For Gnubg the more cores the better, and higher clock rates result in more evaluations per second). Hyperhtreading & QPI based processors (like Nehalem/i920) can boost performance at a price.
