In Response To: Is 2 minutes enough clock reserve time? (Rich Munitz)

Nobody has replied so while I should be packing or doing laundry or something otherwise useful in my ultimate goal of leaving for LA tomorrow I'll catch up on some forum buzz.

There are many factors that go into the "how long should this match have taken" equation as you noted. You said I am seeing too many cases where this threshold is being exceeded. Are you sure it's the fault of the time settings and not the players in question? You (I think it was you?) noted Joe Russell over the weekend almost running out of time and it sounded like he had, at least at one point, more than enough time left. Then you made it sound like he forgot he was playing with a clock and ran himself low. Is this a situation you should really toss under the 'not enough reserve time' flag?

I have a hard time swallowing ppl need this much time. I honestly believe people waste a lot of time whether it be shaking the dice, not knowing how to roll to the part of the board where there aren't checkers that will likely cock their dice, or moving shit around without any clue what they're doing, then staring at it like they're thinking when in reality they're just as dumbfounded as before they set it up and aren't thinking at all. Harsh? Yes...but it's what I think from what I often see. There are also my opponents who set up any reasonable play to look at it not because they need to look at it, but I think they want to show me they considered the play in case it's correct and they get it wrong.

I'm no Art Benjamin, I'm no Kissane, I need time to get an accurate pipcount, I need time to figure out my take point, doubling window, figure in gammon values, and decide what I want to do with both the position and the person sitting in front of me. I have never felt rushed, I will never run out of time, what do the people who are taking more time than this need it for?

I may be flexible for finals events not being clocked so there's a more enjoyable experience for all the kibitzers and ppl like Neil, Ray, etc... can entertain if they want with their banter, other than that...speed it up.
