ABT Point System Insight

I am open to changes in the system. The first question is to ask what we want to accomplish. Do we want a system which is likely to accurately reflect the abilities (along with attendence) of the players? Or do we want a system which "gives everyone a chance". The latter system (which is what we currently have) has the advantage of raising interest and attendence from those who are in the top 20 in a current year who would not normally be that high. I would prefer a system which would favor the strongest players more, but this is not an obvious choice. Another potential issue with changing the point system is that it might damage or destroy the meaning of lifetime statistics.

Adding an ELO system would not require that we abandon the ABT point structure. I see that as a clearly good choice if cost is sufficiently low and cooperation assured.
