Is 2 minutes enough clock reserve time?

Joe "Does that mean that one should not be able to reach for a water bottle and shake the dice thoroughly? I fear that folks are losing sight of why the clocks were introduced in the first place.
There also seems to be a tendency for younger players to favor shorter allowable times. While I'm all for efforts to bring more and younger players into the game, I don't think it's fair to make clock management an important part of it."
Neil...ROFLMAO .. why not take your drink during your opp's turn while he's playing?
As for younger players favoring shorter times..well I am 51 and I think Bill Riles is 56.
Newer players play in Novice which certainly never will be clocked, or Adv/(Interm. or what ever you want to call it) which is only clocked at director's discretion if there's an unusually slow player or match. Will Adv. be clocked in a couple of years, I don't know, but newer players can play novice as with several sandbaggers still being allowed to remain in advanced, they have little chance unless in novice.
It is not necessary to use all 12 sec shaking the dice, LOL as some players seem to do. I can EASILY shake the dice, roll vigorously, make an automatic move and hit the clock which 6 of my 12 seconds remaining, sometimes 7. In a bearoff, I can do it with 8 seconds remaining and I rolled a pick and pass number in Chicago bearing off and and did all that and hit the clock with 8 seconds left. I reckon I was faster when younger :)
The purpose of clocks is to keep events moving along at a reasonable pace and to minimize the chances of a couple slow players making everyone left in the event miserable bcuz their bracket is 2 or 3 hours behind.
