In defense of Harry Zilli

In Response To: Harry Zilli effect (Chuck Bower)

Harry Zilli's rating was based largely on his performance in the early 90's at the Beltway BG Club, which also boasted luminaries such as Paul Weaver and Ed O (not to mention yours truly). Certainly, that level of competition was not up to ABT standards, but it probably compared favorably with most, if not all other local clubs.

As far as I know, Harry has not played BG in recent years, but I have no doubt that he would be a force to be reckoned with if he were to resume active play.

I'm sure someone can come up with an appropriate weighting system so that local matches can be counted. Perhaps there should be a requirement that any match (whether local or ABT) counts only if both players have played some minimum number of matches -- which would correct for the player off the street phenomemon.
