You'll have to write an application in a way, so it can exploit severa Cores/CPUs.

-This task is not trivial and even if you support several CPUs you have to expect diminishing returns with any additional CPU. You can find more informations under "Amdahls law". In a nutshell the part of your algorithm that isn't parallizable determines your performance. It is comparable easy to support 2 Cores and 4 cores it starts to get difficult. with 8 or 16 Cores you will have to work hard to hold them under load unless you problem is trivially parallizable (fortunatly rollouts are easy to run in parallel)

-it is not long ago that more than one core was High end (2,5 years if I can trust my memory). Therefore most older apllications support only one thread.
