2. Does it matter what level you play against? Aren't your error ratings based strictly on the plays you make, regardless of the plays your opponent makes?

Of course it matters. Who do you think you'd have the better error rate against, Snowie 3 ply or Petko? Snowie 3 ply sneaks up on cubes basically telling you "hey, this is a take when I double" and plays solid straightforward backgammon. Petko will make small mistakes hoping to complicate the game, lengthen the game, giving you more opportunities to really botch things up and may not double 'on time' like the bot does leaving you to your own analysis instead of relying on his.
