Bill "I think ABT points should be completely segregated between Championship, Advanced/Intermediate, and Beginner."

Neil replies with the usual answer here...one of the problems is that players sometimes move back and forth between divisions. ie..a MN local player might play champs in his own MN Open T in late July, but if he decides to combine a bit of a gambling vacation in Vegas in Nov with that T, he plays Adv/Inter rather that pop down 500 to struggle agaisnt a world class field.

Your idea does have merit and would have no effect on life time points as long as the weightings remain the same as now and also is unlikely to result in an inter having more points than the ABT champ (champ div) at year end.

Since players may switch divisions due to the strength of the T, their finances at the time, and the director's discretion, obviously points won in beginners cannot apply to the inter title and points won in champ also shouldn't apply and again noting that then even more champ players will sandbag in inter.

As will now be described in a length reply to Phil's post and after reading much of what other's have said, I remain unconvinced that any changes need to be made to the current and long lived ABT structure. However, a ELO ratings list if well maintained would be really nice to have over the coming years.
