You might be right about that, although I wouldn't face a decision like that because I would have cubed :)
But as a general rule it's better to have the bar point than the 8 point in these positions since once he crashes the bar point his 5s will still play (rather than his 6s being killed). Also some minor long-term value if he later comes in on the ace and has to squeeze off the anchor or whatever.
It might be better to get more immediate shots if you plan on playing on, though, so now I've confused myself.
