B/22/20* looked like a NEXT, until you posed this as a problem that is. I guess it's close, but I still hit.

Assuming it is close then if one player was in time trouble then the decision could become quite important. If Blue was in time trouble then keeping it simple by not hitting and just closing out the last man has merit.
