This is a pretty awful choice to make. Nothing good. Furthermore, blue doesn't have cube access so he has to actually win, not just threaten to win. Hitting threatens to complete the prime and provides a direct path to victory. It is not as bad as it looks since there is a blot on the 24 point, and getting hit on the 1 at least has accomplished the objective of knocking white off the edge of the prime. It risks getting gammoned, but it also threatens to win a gammon. Some of the gammon threat by white will often get sucked away in the form of a big market loss and an inefficient cube, whereas blue gets to keep all gammon equity. Opponent holding the cube often favors the volatile play.
