In Response To: Its a start (Chuck Bower)

Okay, Chuck, so far what has gone on is an exchange of ideas. Your reaction is duly noted. At the moment I am gathering drawsheets for the purpose of determining WL records. I have mentioned several times that I do not possess the required skills to do an ELO thing, but MANY of the posters contributing to this thread feel that is the best way to go.

Bill Davis is on record as preferring a Snowie ER average to determine the best. There are lists of those players in various places online already I think. I happen to think that the bottom line is always: Who won? (!)

I AM gathering stats, but NOT promising any ELO accounting. However, it seems that BackGames.org can generate that too. That remains to be seen!

Any dontations would be just that, donations. Not taxation without representation... But I personally feel if you always take and never give anything back, well, you are kind of a loser. Seems to me that many of the folks here are anxious for statistical information. Many of them would be thankful and want to "encourage" the project.

What people have to give is different. Some have more cash, some have more time, some have valuable skills. Richard Munitz is a guy who is familiar with the particular difficulties with this type of software and I am not. Somebody else did the work, and he feels it would be appropriate to contribute fiscally, and so do I. Those who don't feel that way, or can't contribute cash, won't. I don't expect a lot of intermediates to start writing checks. Time, $$$, or expertise are mutually exclusive entities that can combine with a certain synergy to produce something effective or desired.

We are still in the incipient stages, to use a fire science term, and so I am tossing out ideas. Not necessarily outlining specific non negotiable rules.
