I think you are mis-reading Bill's argument. It is truly about ego. People like win/loss stats because they can argue with them. "I have a horrible record, but I just got unlucky these last 5 years." If you start publishing defensible stats like ELO or Bot Error Rate for EVERYONE, some of the weaker players will start to believe their numbers and find a new place to donate their money.

I think Bill is suggesting that you use Snowie ER to resolve disputes between the few egos that actually want to know the answer and let the rest of us continue blissfully believing we know how to play this silly game.
