Side pools and jackpots, I think, are truly the way to go with the money situation. There could well be just as much money up for grabs -- and maybe we could change the payout system a bit on the side pools and jackpots.

When Jackie Seiders-Smart was running the Austin bi-monthlies she had a nominal entry fee ($50) and three side pools ($25, $50, and $100). A participant could enter any or all side pools, or not enter any if they wished. Thus, the participant could select his financial level of comfort or interest.

I really think we need to address the basic affordability of the main events. I don't think it makes a big difference to the regulars, but I think it will enhance our ability to bring in new players.
