Attendance ... Perhaps it is the Money

I'd play Masters, I'd play other side events. I'd enter side pools. I'd play Chouette.
I am not opposed to the idea in the abstract. But it seems to be more of a local structure than something that attracts out-of-town players. If there's still enough action I can talk myself into going, but flights and hotels and the like aren't cheap.
They've got backgammon boards in the schools in Denmark. Why not here in the USA?
You may underestimate the insanity of American politics.
Sorry if a change like this will interfere with the careers of us backgammon pros. It can't always be about what's good for us.
There has been a lot of speculation recently about egoism, embarrassing weaker players, various ways to increase attendance....my own feeling is that people like to see large tournaments with many strong players and like to have some sort of reward even if they don't win the tournament. That might just be a few rating or master points or just the ability to watch some strong players' matches or whatever.
Lots of scattered ideas, so much so that I find it difficult to follow. But I think everyone agrees that tournaments could really stand to see a boost to attendance and would rather see more young people playing the game. I know I would because that might give me some people to talk to. Stick will do for now but he's too old and not that pretty.
