There are (only artificial?) circumstances where the strongest player is more likely to be undefeated finalist than once-defeated finalist, though. I looked at the case of one shark in a pond of equal fish. In the setup of the LA tournament as I understand it from the information given here in the thread, the shark would be more likely to remain undefeated if the shark's MWC is a constant larger than 71% against everyone else.
