In Response To: Attendance ... Perhaps it is the Money (Bob Koca)

But isn't this a potential problem already? In a recent ABT tournament, I faced Steve Sax, one of the very best players in the world, in the semifinals. I was, to put it gently, a huge underdog. I had neither bought back in the Calcutta nor entered the side pool. I am virtually certain Steve entered the side pool--I'm not sure about the Calcutta. So, depending on how I felt about my chances, I'm pretty sure that there existed a profitable *space* in which for us to negotiate for me to throw the match. Nonetheless, we did not.

Would a system like the one Keene suggests encourage collusion more than the current system? It's not clear to me that it would. I'd be interested to see the math...
