1 and 3 I put the spare on the 4pt.

2 and 4 I put the spare on the 6pt.

Ok, seriously though, the choice between spare placement has to do with being more aggressive during the bearoff and being more safe during the bearoff.

In position 1, blue has so many gammons that the extra gammons gained look minimal, while the extra wins look important.

In position 2, I can easily see enough extra gammons from being risky, so I want the spare on the 6pt.

In position 3, it is all about not getting hit, your gammons gained will be minimal. If the cube wasn't turned yet I'd probably put the spare on the 6pt though, and play for the gammon until or unless it looked too risky to do so.

In position 4, white has a speed board, and the bigger danger vs speed boards is that white enters quickly, not that white hits. So I put the spare on the 6pt on the theory that this takes off the most checkers before opening up something for white to enter. If the cube wasn't turned, then I'd be cubing immediately I think, although I am less sure about this cube than the last one.
