Is white better off with the bar or without? Lets say you could move all four of white's outfield checkers to the midpoint to keep the race about the same. Which would be better for white? I think the bar is an asset and not a liability here for white in spite of the timing concerns.

Not saying it isn't a double. I think it probably is. I simply choose to wait and give white a more difficult decision later.
