I agree with you and I'm not even sure initially why I started the second rollout. Sometimes I suspect things on the way, put the rollout on the queue, then completely forget why I was doing it but do it anyway. I would have thought beforehand that D was the clear choice over S.

As you mentioned, down in the race, your opponent has an awkward stacked structure which is not usually something you split into when one has other decent options. The one thing I guess the split has going for it is the duplication of fours. I'll still be shocked though if it's correct and surprised regardless if the plays remain so close.
