-3 is the trickiest of scores and while the two 'rules' I'm going to share are certainly flawed, if you can't figure out the position yourself I would recommend following them. (assuming -3 -X where X ≥ 6)

1. If you're -3 you're either TG or not good enough.
2. If you're -X and your opponent is -3 and he doubles you it's always a take.
