OK, a more serious response:

It's true that some of these are not the most interesting positions in the book. However, these are situations that come up frequently and it is still possible to make errors in this part of the game. If you play similar positions well you can often afford to make a blunder or two somewhere along the course of the game and still play well; if you consistently butcher simple positions it generally doesn't matter how brilliantly you play the checkers or the cube.

In any event, I didn't choose these positions, they chose me.
