It's time I admitted something to you all. JJ and I are one in the same. If you were to go back over all of Jake's articles and posts for the past 20 years you will see that most of the positions and the thinking was generated by me, anyway, so we may as well be one in the same.
As for the credibility of Extreme Gammon, most agree that it is easier to use and has some features that are very nice for teaching, for learning, and for illustrating point. But the most important thing for advanced players is knowing how reliable are the rollouts compared to GNU and Snowie, as we are never going to fully trust anything less than a rollout that comes with a high confidence level.
One thing we know for sure: you can do all of your rollouts a lot faster on EG, and everyone who has looked at it critically so far agrees that the results are at least as good as GNU and Snowie.
I also believe it plays as well or better, and I personally don't play it at 3 play, but at xg, which is, in effect, a mini-rollout of 3600 which it does in 2 or 3 seconds. And at that level, it is extremely accurate compared to the other bots. But again, for advanced players, what difference does that make as long as it plays well...the important thing is the rollout accuracy.
