Why 0-ply and why eliminate the other variables? Because in my opinion, the strength of the neural net lies at the center of all other results, and 0-ply is the direct output of the neural net. It is only 5 times as fast if it produces the same quality results 5 times as fast. If for example, XBG needs to evalutate 1 ply deeper in order to produce the same quality result as GNU, then in reality it is not faster at all. All of the other variables are certainly of interest, but in my opinion it is useful to know apples to apples how they compare at the most basic level.
