I am also suspicious about different in playing strenghts. Maybe Xavier can tell us something about training process for XBG and relations with GNUbg neural network. Well, on XBG site they estimated -2 ELo difference on 3ply(XBG)/2ply(GNUbg) which is nothing and -12 Elo difference on deeper settings which is something (because of XBG speed, I guess, it can make deeper evaluation in same time, which is it's plus). I saw how they thanks to Neil for advices, and I guess he told them about what part of game GNUbg NN doesn't play well (like broken and massive backgames, containtment etc. and it is possible that they done some training in that way). But such positions are unusual and they can't get much, much better result (although every improvement is great and difficult to reach).

But, if you read their comparation table between GNUbg and XBG with lot of incorrectly information about features which XBG has and GNUbg doesn't, and when you saw how they choose features which are fine for XBG and miss those which are not good for them, their Elo estimation (which is in XBG favor, of course) loose in credibility for my opinion. What a pity.

I think we get here much faster rollout machine (which is able to make some 'realtime' truncated rollouts as Bob said) with nice, Snowielike interface and features for beginers but with almost equal (slightly better) playing strenght as GNUbg has.

Once again, support for quad core CPUs (also rollouts in parallel) with possibility to install XBG on laptop and PC with same licence $50, is something which will definitely persuade me to buy it.
