Buy Commercial Time -- Just My Opinion

Phil has come out with a strong statement in favor of ExtremeGammon. He stands to make money on ExtremeGammon sales and says so openly.
Does anyone think the backgammon community is ill served by Phil's statement?
More to the point, does anyone think anyone in this forum is ill served by it?
Who's going to blindly trust Phil, especially given that he has a monetary stake in touting ExtremeGammon? Nobody here that I know. People will do their best to evaluate ExtremeGammon's merits objectively, and they'll post their findings here and disseminate them elsewhere.
Phil knows all this, and very likely welcomes it because he believes ExtremeGammon is a good product.
Evaluation of a bot depends on its strengths, weaknesses, and cost. Phil makes objective evaluation easier for us by posting claims about strengths and weaknesses, and giving the bot's price.
Thus we will all be well served by Phil's notice here of this new bot.
Thus I believe your distaste for self-interested (I won't say "biased") promotion of this product is misplaced. As somebody else said, we aren't being deluged with popups. We're free to read the subject lines and ignore posts about ExtremeGammon if we choose.
I have not bought ExtremeGammon just because Phil endorses it. I'll buy it if I think it's worth 50 bucks. Whether I think it's worth 50 bucks will depend a lot on what I hear from people who have used it, with strong bot-literate players' opinions getting priority over others'. Much of what goes into my buy/no-buy decision will come from this forum.
Therefore, I see no problem with Phil's "advertising" or postulated "bias." The evalution process is already starting, as people are looking hard at what the bot can do.
